Queer Straight Alliance
Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ community, or a straight ally, this is an organization that will help raise awareness, promote education, and provide a safe space for LGBTQ persons and issues. We strive for the acceptance of the queer community and support collaboration of queer and straight persons to achieve equality.
Queer Straight Alliance at the University of Nebraska at Kearney started in the fall of 2008 to celebrate individuality, support the queer community on the UNK campus as well as the Kearney community, and to promote awareness concerning queer issues. We support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender persons and straight allies. The organization would like to provide a safe space regardless of sexual orientation and identity, and help to extend this safety to the surrounding area. QSA's objectives include fighting discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools; helping raise LGTBQ awareness; the sharing of personal experience for the purpose of education and support; meeting people who have the same interests and experiences; learning about each other; and volunteering for and organizing multicultural programs.
Meetings for the Fall 2011 semester are held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in room 312 of the Nebraska Student Union. We would love to have you!
